Changes are on the Way!

With the end of another school year approaching, comes a little overdue 'spring cleaning'.  With the shift in seasons, our blog will be moving to a new address:

We'll see you there!

Grocery Grandeur

Thanks to the wonderful staff at HEB, our class enjoyed an educational and FUN field trip!  We were able to experience all of our farm to market learning first hand, and were able to take a 'VIP' tour of the store.  The students used their sense of touch to guess which fruits/vegetables were placed behind their backs, and were even given the chance to try their hand at cupcake icing!  Each student also received their own grocery bag full of goodies, including a much needed snack after all of our 'mouth-watering' sight seeing...

Squirmy Wormies!

The arrival of the earthworms always fills our Kindergarten classrooms with curiosity, giggles, and screams! Check out our videos below to see how our first encounters went!

Yipee-ay-yay, It's Rodeo Day!

This year's Kindergarten Rodeo Day came and went with a Texas sized yee-haw!  After learning all about cowboys, the students put to use their 'rodeo-ing' skills to compete in a variety of events.  We had good ol' fashioned horseshoe tossing, bull-roping (tossing hula-hoops around a stuffed, makeshift bull), cowboy hat sorting, bandana and horse relays, and much, much more!  You can check out our Animoto below, and to read more, you can visit our March page (scroll down to the Social Studies section towards the bottom of the page):

A 'Hearty' Estimate

Angela showed off her savvy estimating skills this month when she won February's Estimation Jar!  She had an exact estimate of the number of chocolate conversation hearts inside this month's jar.  Congratulations to one special lady!

Valentine's Day Sundaes

Valentines Day 'melted' our hearts away with an ice cream sundae buffet!  The students were so excited to decorate their own ice cream sundae at our buffet station:

They then enjoyed their sweet treats at their special place setting, set up with their utensils and Valentines bag for some 'pre and post-snacking reading':

Check out the Animoto we made to commemorate our special day:

An extra special thank-you to all of the parents that came to visit and assist!

100 Reasons to Celebrate!

It's hard to believe 100 days of school have already gone by, but our Kindergartners took the opportunity to celebrate our 100th day in style!

We showed off our 100th day collection posters...

...and our 100 year-old costumes:

Then, after a long, fun-filled day of activities celebrating the number 100, we headed home with our 100th day of school certificates:

....and an awesome snack from Georgia!

It's Houston alright...believe it or not!

We just had to post this picture from our playground from earlier this morning!  We had the unexpected opportunity to learn the difference between snow and frost today, but I think it was unanimous that they're both just as exciting to see. It couldn't have had more perfect timing either- we're in the middle of our seasons and weather unit in Science!  If only it would stay on the ground for a little bit longer...

A January Jewel

High Five to Juliana, this month's estimation jar winner!  Juliana had the closest estimate to the exact number of snow kisses inside our January jar.  Way to go to a 'Jan-tastic' estimator!  We're so proud of you!

Welcome Back Old Friend!

Our class had an extra special treat this week of having a first grade guest come and visit us!  I had the honor of being Isabella's Kindergarten teacher last year, and we were delighted to have her come read a book from the Fly Guy series to this year's Kindergartners.  We were blown away with the amazing job she did reading, and the students can't wait to read chapter books just like her soon.  We're so proud of you, Isabella!  Keep up the great work!
